Frequently asked questions
Yes, many people seek us out based on positive word-of-mouth and our reputation for fun, informative classes, but please consider whether or not you truly meet the criteria for need before registering for class. If you can afford to pay even $175 for a childbirth class, we encourage you to seek out other resources in our community so that we can continue to serve those who most need our services. You can also speak with your insurance about education coverage.

1. Be pregnant!
2. Be a single or teen mother or facing an unexpected pregnancy. We have no specific income requirements. There is no special application or approval process. We rely on the honor system and encourage only those who could not otherwise afford childbirth education to register.
Yes! We promise we do not charge for our classes (and there is no sales pitch for anything either). All of the services offered by Cascade Women’s Health are privately funded by individual donors and organizations. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families facing unexpected pregnancies and we welcome any family who may benefit from our services that are free of charge.
Each class is two hours long with a short break in the middle. Class starts and ends promptly. Our curriculum blends practical information with interactive group work. Instructors strive to make class an enjoyable place to be.
Unfortunately, we do not provide childcare and we are not able to accommodate children in the classroom. Please secure your own child care arrangements. Babes-in-arms are welcome to our Parenting and Becoming a Family classes.
YES! We strongly encourage you to bring at least one partner to every class whether it is your partner, family member, or friend. Please choose a partner who you can depend on to be kind, patient, and helpful through your labor and postpartum.
We recommend that you bring whatever helps you remain comfortable. We offer padded seating, birth balls, and rocking chairs for your comfort. You are welcome to bring beverages and/or food as long as they are not distracting during class.
Absolutely! Our curriculum is evidence based and unbiased. We are here to give you all the information you need so that you can make your own informed decisions. A large portion of class time is devoted to labor coping skills which are essential even if you decide to have medications. We receive referrals from many local midwives and obstetricians because they know their patients will receive a balanced education that prepares them to approach labor with confidence no matter where or how they choose to give birth. We love the motto: “Freedom of choice based on knowledge of alternatives.”
Our curriculum is developed by experienced educators and is based on the latest research. All our instructors have received comprehensive training, and most are certified in labor support or childbirth education by internationally recognized childbirth organizations Lamaze and International Childbirth Education Association.
If you are taking a birth and baby preparation class, it’s best to register for one that ends at least THREE weeks before your due date. That way, you won’t miss the last birth preparation classes if your baby is born early. Don’t delay registering!
